Recycling plastic and creating paid work
Boxhead began with one difficult waste stream: plastic car bumper bars.
We collect prepared bumper bars from smash repair workshops across Greater Sydney and the Central Coast. The plastic is checked, sorted and processed into feedstock for Australian manufacturers.
The sorting and processing work also creates paid shifts and practical work experience for women who have been through the justice system.
Since 2020, Boxhead Plastics has:

The employment and environmental outcomes are connected
We are focused solely on collecting, sorting, and processing rigid plastic to create jobs. The recycled material is then used in Australian manufacturing rather than sending it to landfill.
In the last year, the employment program operated five days a week and delivered 3,210 paid work hours. Those hours are part of the collecting, sorting and processing operation.

Meet the Founder
Boxhead founder Rebecca Healy leads the organisation’s work in plastic recycling and social employment.
Rebecca established Boxhead Plastics in 2020 after identifying a gap between rigid plastic waste recovery and meaningful employment pathways for women returning to the workforce after the justice system.
Her work has been recognised across industry and community sectors.
